The Belgian national team player started the Sevilla game on the bench before coming on for the final eleven minutes. His goal secured a 2-2 draw for Real Madrid in a game that the Spanish club needed to win to take the lead in the race to win the league title in the top flight this season.

Real Madrid knew that they would move ahead of city rivals Atletico Madrid at the La Liga summit with a win over Sevilla but they were unable to meet that target. The reigning La Liga champions could have lost the game if not for the timely intervention of Eden Hazard.

Eden Hazard came on as a second half substitute in the place of Brazilian international Vinicius Jr.on 79 minutes with Real Madrid trailing 2-1.

Sevilla midfielder Fernando scored the opening goal of the game midway into the first half as the visitors took a 1-0 lead at the interval. Spanish international Marco Asensio scored the equaliser for the hosts midway into the second half before Sevilla went ahead again through former Barcelona player Ivan Rakitic.

Croatian international Rakitic was successful from the penalty spot after Real Madrid defender Eder Militao was penalised for handball in the box. The goal from Rakitic gave Sevilla a 2-1 lead but they were unable to hold on to victory thanks to the stoppage time equaliser from Eden Hazardoff the assist from German national team player Toni Kroos.

Real Madrid could have snatched all the three points needed to take them to the La Liga summit through Brazilian international Casemiro with virtually the last kick of the game but Sevilla survived as the two teams played out a 2-2 draw.
